New stadium - Football / Athletics

Image
A lot has been said about Everton's new stadium containing an athletics track to enable a Commonwealth games bid, particularly by the Mayor of Liverpool. In April he made the following comments to Paul Joyce of the Times. “At the end of the day Everton’s desire to have intimacy with the fans is something that I want, too, as a supporter, b ut that doesn’t mean to say that they have to be at odds with each other. “It might cost extra but we are happy to talk to Everton about those costs and who meets those costs. As part of our partnership they have to pay us a rental and we might take a window where they don’t do that. “There are all kinds of possibilities. I am not getting worried about that. Everton are in partnership with us and I am confident, without revealing too much. “They are fully aware of my position and they have told me their design team are looking at that. It is not conditional, but I would be disappointed if we couldn’t work together to find an outcome. Th

Four hour hike up to the highest point on Montserrat. The views are superb- you can see the snowy tops of the mountains in the pyrenees and all the way out across the Mediterranean to the mountains in Mallorca. Obviously you cant see either with the quality of photo from my phone.

La Liga targets for Everton

Image
Short peice on a few players Everton have been linked with, will inevitably be linked with or that I think we should go for. Surprisingly Steve Walsh is a better judge of player than me, naturally they are all based in La Liga. Right back Mario Gaspar - Villareal 26 years old, spent all of his career at Villareal. Good all round performer, easily good enough to challenge a prime Seamus Coleman. Played for Spain a few times. Probably needs to improve a bit going forward (probably why he isn't at Barcelona) but easily good enough to improve us, especially with Coleman's long term injury. Scored this goal against England. Sign him up. Centre halves Matteo Mussachio - Villareal Very good defender but always though he was on the small side so was surprised that we have been heavily linked with him. Stand's at just shy of 6ft tall, Koeman mentioned when he first joined that the club lacked physicality, so can't see this making a whole lot of s

UNESCO article, flooding

Short piece on a couple of Liverpool Echo articles- http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/could-new-everton-stadium-affect-12805656 http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bramley-moore-stadium-global-warming-12808366 ¨ The new Everton stadium could be built at Bramley Moore Dock without damaging Liverpool’s World Heritage status, council officials believe. Liverpool is on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in danger thanks to concerns over the £5bn Liverpool Waters scheme. And while council officials say a stadium could potentially further risk Liverpool’s WHS status, they believe it can be designed in a way that would satisfy UNESCO and preserve the dock’s heritage. Meanwhile the council will tomorrow hold a public consultation event about the future of Liverpool’s World Heritage status. Bramley Moore Dock is part of the massive Liverpool Waters scheme to regenerate the city’s northern docklands. It had been earmarked for housing be

Bramley Moore Dock. The work to come.

Article on the planning process and potential environmental issues that Everton need to overcome Following Everton, Peel and Liverpool City Council’s announcement that Everton will commence the planning process for a new stadium at Bramley Moore dock a number of questions have arisen on the process Everton have to go through at this point to achieve planning permission and start building. This article attempts to break down the likely hurdles that they are going to have to overcome both prior to the planning process and after. Firstly, a word on procedure. Everton will have to apply for planning permission under the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) in order to build the development. In very simple terms, this will consist of details of the development, an assessment of the environmental effects (EIA/Environmental Statement) and how they intend to mitigate the negative impacts. This planning application will then be assessed by the local planning authority wh
